The Oct/Nov/Dec holiday "portrait season" went by in a whirlwind, filled with exhilarating child and family sessions, holiday card designs, and too-cute-for-words portrait gifts. I wasn't able to take the time to feature as many of the sessions on the blog and facebook as I would have liked, but now that it's January and I've had a chance to catch-up and relax a bit, here's a glimpse of a few faves from this fall/winter 2011...

Wow! After an intense holiday-order-rush season I get to relax a little and send out some holiday cheer!

After finishing countless holiday cards (each one more original, adorable, & modern than the last), an abundance of "Christmas gift" portraits and products, and wrapping up the shooting, editing, and parties associated with the fabulous CRAVE book this fall, I want to THANK YOU for being part of Feather Blue Studios in whatever way. I am blessed by the opportunity to use my creativity to create memories and bring smiles.

Look for an array of photos from the last couple months of shooting coming soon, (after I get a little down-time). ;)

After an exciting fall of photographing an array of fabulous local women and their inspiring places, products, and services for the very cool CRAVE coffee-table book guide, the week to see the book is finally upon us!
Now it's time to CELEBRATE! Come tell us what YOU CRAVE! at a special CRAVE book launch party hosted by me (Feather Blue Studios) and my good friend Deirdre of Deirdre & Company (also featured in the book).

A big part of what I love to do is help launch new models in the world of modeling in the Twin Cities. Through Model Integrity I give upfront advice on the risks & benefits of pursuing this industry and how to recognize scams vs legit agencies and opportunities.

While this industry is not for everyone (& does involve a lot of hard work!) I encourage models who want to go for it to give it their best shot and do it right! Wow. I am floored by how long it's been since I've blogged.

But I have a good reason.

I've been completely engrossed in the most fabulous project. I've been shooting smart, savvy, super-fun women business owners all over the Twin Cities for the 2nd edition of CRAVE Mpls/St Paul - the trendy coffee table book / city guide to women owned businesses in the Twin Cities.

Summer Schedule...

I will confess, I am taking it easy... I LOVED our 100degree heat wave and am completely thrilled at the reality of summer. So you won't find any fancy newsletters, intensive events, or major studio undertakings for awhile (all though sometimes inspiration is known to strike at odd times). ;)

But I have made some scheduling decisions for the summer and thought it a good idea to share. With the kids out of school, summer camps planned, weekends accounted for, and desk cleaned, I can finally settle in to a new (temporary!) routine.

So as a flexible guideline, the summer schedule is as follows:
-Tuesdays: desk & editing days (best to catch me via phone!)
-Thursdays & Fridays: most shoots scheduled; some desk-time
-Wed or Thurs nights: various evening shoot availability
(some Monday evenings are possibilities too)

Keep in mind, summer days are long and late afternoon to evening light is GORGEOUS for outdoor shoots! Morning & mid-day shoots are great for studio-shoots and will work for outdoors, but not as ideal for on-location glory.

Summer is a great time for:
-Senior Pictures
-Child or Family Shoots at the Park
-Fashion Portfolio updating

Spring! (and studio stuff)

We're all aware that MN has been very unsure as to whether Spring is really here or not... but after several bouts of Spring snow, freezing whether, TONS of rain, and a little hail, it seems we have settled into weather that wants to remain at least above the 50s (and occasionally the 70s). We'll take it!

This past week the lilacs bloomed, one of the most glorious scents in the entire universe (currently filling my home), but alas far too short-lived. So here's a couple of lilac shots to add some "Spring cheer" to your day.

With summer fast approaching and school ending soon, the studio hours, which have been primarily all day Tues & Thurs + Fridays mornings will be changing a tad in the next few weeks (though I'm not sure exactly to what yet!) and we'll keep you posted as to new availability soon.

I'm working on a couple other projects, so studio hours may be a bit more scarce with less focus on special events, so if booking a session is in the back of your mind, you may want to get on it!

Early Summer is a great time to get in those low-pressure family or child outdoor shoots (plenty of time to throw that holiday card together come fall!) and of course the beginning of Senior Picture season for the upcoming class of 2012!

And with our Summer Model Integrity schedule, I'm excited to meet new faces and also hopefully do a fun mix of studio and location model portfolio work with local talent.

Aruba Photographic Art Collection

I had the privilege of traveling to Aruba {Dutch Carribean} earlier this month (thanks to my hubbie's company) and spent some time feeding my creative side by taking a few rounds of artistic images. The finally collection makes me just plain happy and I thought it might bring a little joy to you all too.

Collages, Jewelry, Canvases (& hot cocoa)...

Things are always a little quieter here in the winter; everyone likes to snuggle down & lie low for a bit after the holiday rush. Understandably of course -- I like to join them, preferably with a cup of hot cocoa and a good book in hand. :) But even with less of a rush, projects still abound, and I wanted to share just a few of the unique products I've been working on for portrait clients this past month or so...

A canvas collage, complete with side text, from one of our fall shoots. I love the energy & love it expresses...

Sterling silver, waterproof, and heirloom-quality. Four kids wrapped around mom's heart.

This is a proof of a terribly fun 15x30" collage I've just finished working on - won't it look fabulous once framed? So modern.

Oh, and I saw GREEN grass yesterday (peaking out from under 6 feet of snow of course). A true sign that spring will eventually come. We can make it a bit longer all, can't we? Just hang on tight to that hot cocoa & find yourself a good book... soon things won't be so "quiet." :)

Ahh... remember when the snow, well, just wasn't?

We did have fall, didn't we? And it was lovely. :)

Yes, there's still time! Still time to create the best Christmas Card on the block (err, list). :) Still time to get modern Christmas Portraits that say "wow!"

As deadlines go: Tuesday December 7th is the very last day to shoot with Christmas turnaround in mind. Weekend of Dec 4th, preferred. (By the end of November, even better). :) But none-the-less, don't panic. There. is. still. time.

Shooting in-studio is the best option at this point, though if you're up for snow-covered hills, I am too. :)

I often get asked the "what-to-wear" question, or do you have any "themes" in mind? This posting is dedicated to inspiration for those of you wondering how to give your holiday photos that envy-worthy flair!

AND, if you read on, there is ONE LAST HOLIDAY SPECIAL at the end as well. (Santa says not to peak until you've been inspired by the rest of the posting). :)

My advice for selecting what to wear, or what theme to create, is this:
*Start with ONE THING YOU LOVE and work around it. Go shopping. Browse online. And when you fall in love with that one thing, jump on it and the inspiration will flow from there!

It could be a woodsman hat for your little guy, some ear-muffs, funky shoes, a fuzzy vest for your spunky girl, a toy that you're family loves, an instrument, that to-die-for baby dress, a pair of cozy Pjs, a cute Christmas mug, a pair of slippers, that dress that you eyed on the mannequin (not all the fun has to be for the little ones).

Once you find that one item that you've completely fallen for, then you can decide if you're portrait mood will be:
~dressy or casual
~a look with fashion-flair or popcorn-in-the-hair
~wild or cozy

and find pieces for all the kids or the whole family to go with it.

I have to say, online retailers this year are offering better-than-ever inspiration for complete looks. I especially liked how the websites of Gap Kids & Children's Place offer a themed outfit section, where you can see a whole look and then pick & choose (or continue to browse online) for the perfect compliments to an outfit.

And YES, it's totally ok to wear hats, scarfs, & mittens INSIDE the studio! :)

So here's where we're "wrapping" things up...

Think layered clothes, tatoo-inspired shirts with sweaters or blazers on top, funky shoes, cool tights, a tie over a t-shirt. You get the idea...)

-Glitter & Ice (Are you drawn to the sparkles? Perfect especially if you have girls, though dad & brother don't have to be excluded. Think lots of whites & creams, sparkly clothes, & we can even throw sparkly confetti all around! Great for a "White Christmas," but also nice if you're going to opt for the "Happy New Year" card instead of an earlier holiday greeting.)

I had the great fun of working with Grace a few weeks ago, at the very end of summer, when the weather was still warm & the days were still long & bright...

I'm working on finishing up the order now & thought I'd post some of my favorites. She is full of personality & energy, which made the session all the more fun, and I think her fresh beauty & joy are reflected through these so well.

Back by popular demand! Our fun-filled Halloween Costume Contest & Food Drive event: with mini-shoots for your costumed kids, a craft area, and fabulous treat bags for kiddos to finish things off. Saturday, Oct 30th from 11am-1pm, held at Java Train Cafe (Midway area, St Paul).

Plus, three costumed cuties will be selected as finalists by Feather Blue Studios & Java Train staff to be the Costume Contest Finalists, with open voting to follow to name our 2010 Costume Contest Winner! Kids ages 0-10 are eligible.

Shoots will be just 3-5 minutes each, and prints will be available to purchase post-event online.

To participate, you MUST PRE-REGISTER for a time slot. This helps us keep the event running smoothly plus lets us know how many treat bags to make up! You may come anywhere withing your time slot range, and can stay as long as you like once your photo is done! Space is limited, so don't delay!

To register, email or call the studio: 651.489.8281 or featherbluestudios@juno.com. We need to know the number of kids in your group, their names & ages, and an adults name + email address for confirmation.

Update two days before: Still plenty of space, especially in the afternoon. Email/call us with your details and the slot you want... For now we are calling 11am & 11:20am full, though if that is the ONLY time you can come, let us know & we will fit you in. But the afternoon has LOTS of availability, so for a more relaxed experience, choose the 12 to 1 range; come on over to Java Train for lunch either before or after your event fun!

Note: Java Train has an extensive (& yummy) LUNCH MENU! So no worries about coming over the lunch hour... come for the fun, and stay for lunch!

(As slots fill up we will note it here; we take anywhere from 6-10 kids per time-slot to keep things running smoothly).

October is well underway, with all of it's beautiful colors & pumpkin-related activities. :) We have a few of those ourselves in fact! But with Christmas Cards & Gifts in mind, it's time to post more info about our NOVEMBER Studio Mini-Shoots!

The exciting news is... we have not one, but two chances, for you to get this incredible mini-shoot rate for your baby, child, or family modern portrait session.

-Saturday, November 13th (morning through early afternoon)
AND
-Tuesday, November 16th (morning through evening)

(please note this is a date change from what we'd previously posted, which was only Tues November 9th; that original date has been replaced by these two new ones)

The rate is just $89 ($79 when you book early!), which includes a $25 order credit! If you book before Oct 30th, you will save an additional $10 off the session fee! Each session is 45 minutes long, and includes your choice of background (a few minutes of set-up & background change is part of that 45 minutes). This rate includes up to 5 people. If you have more than 5 individuals as part of your family, please contact us about a slight adjustment for time & rate. And keep in mind that a max of about 6, sometimes 7, people can fit in studio shots. If your family/group is larger, please book an outdoor session (sooner, rather than later!)

And after much calendar-pondering, we've finally come up with the Fall Schedule...

SEPTEMBER~ We're offering a never-before-done BOGO Special! {Buy one, get one free!} This is meant for two groups/families, so email a friend and get them on board. The idea is the first session is regular price, the second session is free! (Of course, you can each go "halfsies" if you prefer). ;) Plus, you'll each get $30 Credit toward your prints. Not a bad start. :)

How it works: You and your friend book your sessions together (to take place the same day, but one hour apart). This can be for baby pictures, kids, family pictures, in-studio or outside... no limits on location (just that it's the same for both of you), no set day, just in September.

One (or both of you) must be a NEW client to the studio. So if you're a regular here and you have friends who have admired your pictures, this is a great time to introduce them to the studio & book a session for both of you! Or if you're a newbie who's admired the website for awhile, grab a friend & have the fun together! Perhaps you both had baby's around the same time? Maybe you are excited to create a envy-worthy, custom Christmas card? Now's the perfect time!

Specialty items (such as handbags, pillows, jewelry, or collages) should be ordered no later than the end of November.

Well, I'm back to work after a week long vacation "up north" here in MN (& a bit of not-so-lovely bout with the flu). The Farmer's Market (St Paul photography)

Every year my family and I try to spend a Saturday or two hitting the St Paul Farmer's Market... (by late July usually our own garden overwhelms us and we have enough zuchinni to feed a small country, so usually we get there in June or early July). :)

For fun, thought I'd just share a few photos from our recent trip this past weekend. Every once in awhile I try to take pictures of things other than people, and it does my soul good. Food & flowers are a close second to people, so how can I resist?

Q: How long have you operated Feather Blue Studios?

A: Wow - it's been five years now! Five years of fun & chaos & growth & creativity! I started as "Shannon Tacheny Photography & Design" and later re-branded to reflect the more modern, yet chabby-chic style my work was beginning to encompass...

Q: What's your favorite ice cream?

A: Hmm... mint chocolate chip most days. Cookies n Cream is a good back-up though. :)

Q: How did you get into photography?

A: I had always wanted to go to Paris, France, and so as part of my college Graphic Design program, I studied abroad in Paris to fulfill a Photography requirement. I bought a camera for the class, and from then on people started asking me to take pictures! I tackled a few other classes after that and did lots of self-teaching, but I think the creative eye has always been there.

Q: What do you love about the Como Park area where you live & shoot?

A: I always say I think it's cool that my kids are growing up just blocks from a zebra [at Como Zoo]! (laugh). Not many kids this side of Africa can say that! Really though, Como Park is a quaint mix of family-friendly living with a bit of an urban edge. In addition to the studio, I love shooting on location by Como Lake & Park, and am also less than 10 minutes from the more urban Grand Ave shopping area, with lots of brick and chic storefronts that make killer backdrops too. If you're not from the area, when you bring your kids and family here for a shoot, you can make a day trip out of it... either heading to Como Zoo afterwards, or down toward Grand for ice cream and some boutique shopping.

Q: Your favorite color?

A: Umm, I thought that was pretty obvious! It's definitely blue. Hence the name feather blue. Maybe more about the name next time???

summertime & baby showcase...

Wow, it's been a crazy couple weeks, but now with "school out" and a couple of out-of-town weekends out of the way, I feel like we can really sink into that summer groove. Maybe I'll even get caught up on the website & blog too (though when the weather gets nice lately I get easily distracted). :)

Still keeping busy around here though and wanted to showcase a few recent "babies" around the studio... just a sampling of what I've been up to. Done a few recent shoots outside as well (& would welcome more! how can one resist a day outside creating art during a beautiful MN summer?), :) which perhaps I'll get around to showcasing soon. For now, check out these cuties...

Sweetest Smiles Contest WINNERS! {Contest of the MN Baby & Kid Expo}

Thank you to all the new friends & proud parents I met at the Expo this past weekend. And to everyone who entered the Expo's Sweetest Smiles contest (which the studio was the sponsor of)... we had a hard time narrowing it down to our 18 finalists who were displayed at the event.

"Penny votes" were taken at the expo booth {proceeds to go toward the March of Dimes} with each penny being worth one vote. And at the end, one photo in each category was declared the winner!

These should be posted on the MN Baby & Kid Expo site soon, but we thought they should be here they are for all to see, as well as a few photos of the booth at the event... :)

Hello All! Hope everyone had a lovely Valentine's Day... with a plague of computer problems around here, I'm a bit behind on blogging (& well, everything else), :) but here's some fun stuff for you all in the baby-crazy crowd!

Well, it was a hit! More than 40 kids participated in our Halloween Costume Contest & Food Drive this year, and I know I had as much fun as they did. :)

Thanks so much to Java Train, for co-sponsoring and hosting the event with us, as well as Second Harvest Heartland, who were were able to donate (drum roll) over 150 items of food to with your help! Thanks also to music teacher Kristin Morant who helped sponsor our treat bags! Girls & their Dolls - a perfect combo for fun!

As I'm working on filling some orders from our Girl Meets Doll event held this past September, I realized I never posted any snapshots from the fun!

Girl Meets Doll was a chance for girls and their dolls (American Girl Doll, etc) to get their photo taken with their doll, enjoy a craft, and create their own doll hair masterpiece (which they loved)! Miriam is one of my favorite seniors. Of course, I'm a little biased... she's been our babysitter for the last few years and the kids love her! :) We will be sad when she heads off to college next year, but if she's not too far away perhaps we'll still see her once in a while. ;)

Super busy around here editing hs senior & child/family shoots from the last few weeks, as well as filling a number of orders. Thanks for your patience to those of you who have been waiting! Just a little update from the studio...

-The Halloween Costume Contest event and shoot on Friday was a blast! Thank you to all who made it - I believe we photographed approximately 40 costumed kids that day - what fun to see all the unique costumes!

-Thanks especially for your generous food shelf contributions! We were able to gift Second Harvest Heartland with more than 150 non-perishable food items! What a blessing we can be to our community when we work together...

-The winner of the $25 Gift Certificate for brining the most items is Lindsay R., who brought 34 items! Thank you Lindsay! - we will be in touch in the next week to get you your prize.

-The Halloween photo gallery (& 3 contest finalists) will be posted in about a week. Keep an eye out for that email if you were part of our event.

It's live! Here's the poster for our 2009 Halloween Costume Contest which will be held at the ever-popular Java Train cafe this year. Friday, October 30th, 3:30-6:30pm (see time slots options below).

This year I'm excited to say the event will also be a food drive, so bring a non-perishable food item (or several!) with you and let's help Second Harvest Heartland support our community!

Hunter's claim to snack fame...

Hey All,

I feel like I have been so busy lately that I have left this blog lacking of anything with much of a personal vibe, :) so I thought I'd at least go ahead and post these images of Hunter (my son, now 2 1/2) and his impact on the baby snack aisle at Target...

He shot this job (which he got through our local modeling agency for those of you who will ask) :) last fall, and lo-and-behold the product actually showed up on shelves this summer just as they said it would (it does not always work this smoothly, trust me). :)

So here he is, in all his glory, selling loads of mango-peach flavored toddler finger food and lovin' it...

(And yes, he does have kool-aid stains on his face, but apparently I was too tired to scrub it off before we shot these photos and too tired to retouch-it out of them now... Real life, enough said.) :)

Maternity Portrait Art - {Twin Cities Maternity Photography}

While I tend to put more time into marketing "baby" sessions rather than "belly" shoots, I do offer maternity photography here at Feather Blue Studios and wanted to share some beautiful images from a recent shoot. Truly art, this mom of 4 (including the new little one!) and her husband ordered a large print of one of these images so that they could "remember that we did that whole baby thing once upon a time." Trying to find a whimsical damask today to use as a possible background for a wedding album, I stumbled upon this sweet little gem of a site: Pixels & Ice Cream. This is a lovely place for designers & us "pretty pattern addicts" to find gloriously adorable photoshop backgrounds, brushes, & illustrations all either as "freebies" or at a too good to be true price. I do believe I will start a listing on the side of the blog for other great gems of designs for all of you other's who crave beautiful papers and backgrounds like me. Soon you will hopefully begin to notice the studio offering new cards (baby announcements, Christmas cards, etc) as well as some whimsical digital album offerings that tickle your visual senses as much as, well, pixels and ice cream.

Delia & Hunter

Most any photographer who also happens to have children will tell you that the hardest subject to take pictures of is their own kids. This is absolutely true in my case. While I think that I am generally incredibly patient and relaxed when I shoot, I find myself agitated and irritable as I try to get my own 2 year old son to sit still (just for 3 seconds, really?) and my 6 year old daughter to give me a smile that is not "the cringe."

Three shoots later (really; I come up with creative ideas, head off to location with them, and come home with NOTHING) I shot these natural light shots by our front door one day on a whim when I especially liked Hunter's shirt and thought Delia was having a good hair day.

Needless to say, these are now my current favorites of the kids and I plan to have large prints made of both of their headshots for our living room. I am made cheerful by Hunter's playful smile and Delia's genuine expression with the dimple. Additionally, I've compiled them to work as the kids (much-overdue-to-be-updated) modeling comp cards (which is what you see here) for their local agencies (as the other two very "planned" shoots did not produce the desired results). :)

Sometimes the unexpected can result in the best of the best. Cheers to that! Wishing you all little unexpected joys this week. :)

Cherish Today

Hi All,

I'm taking off here soon for the July 4th weekend, but wanted to wish you all a splendid summertime and a safe weekend.

It pains me to say that we lost a friend earlier this week in a swimming accident, and certainly the weight of his death has been upon our week. Nathan, who was only 30, and his young wife, parents of four little ones, were friends of ours from church before they moved up north just a few years ago. While we have seen them only minimally over the last couple years, I know without a doubt that Nathan lived his life with purpose and joy, and for God's glory. While it's hard to understand why this young husband and father's life was cut short, it is a reminder to all of us of how to value each day, to cherish our time and our loved ones, to keep priorities and perspective.

My heart hurts immensely for our friend, Nathan's wife, and their precious little children, and I know they'll be in my prayers for a very long time.

It couldn't help but cross my mind that every single picture they have of him will be so treasured, especially by the youngest children who might not remember him. Certainly a photo is treasured even when one lives till 80, :) but all the more in this case. Steve & Jan gave me the opportunity to share in their wedding last month. While May could be a risky month for an outdoor wedding, the bride & groom were blessed with incredibly gorgeous weather. I have just finished up the editing for the event, and here are some of my favorites:

Welcome Kamaria!

Kamaria is currently a Junior at De La Salle High School in Minneapolis. Highly involved in her high school and happy to hang with friends, she peaked our interest with her vibrant attitude and community involvement. Kamaria shares more about her school, her life, and charity of choice, the “Starry Night Prom”…

What are your interests?
I love to play tennis, go shopping and hang out with my friends.

What are you involved in at your high school?
I am on the tennis team, step team, and competition cheer.

How did you find out about the Senior Scene Spokes model Contest?
A friend of mine found out about it on the Internet and told me about it.

Why did you want to be the next spokesmodel?
I wanted something new and different to try and also I liked the whole idea behind it.

Tell me about your charity:
Starry Night Prom is a prom for individuals of all ages with disabilities. It is put on in the month of May.

What made you want to become apart of this charity?
… because it is important to do things for others. I got involved with it through my high school. I have been working with Starry Night Prom since I was in 9th grade. It is all student-run.

What are your plans for the future?
I would love to attend college and study Journalism at either Howard University in Washington, D.C. or Hampton University in Virginia.

This line has a lot of possibilities as gifts & treasures for all types of people - moms, brides, grandparents, dads, daughters, & more... Perhaps in the future I'll have the chance to feature the money-clips & belt-buckles perfect for dad, or the adorable night-lights to light up a little girls room or be the light of grandma's eye, but for now you can set your eyes on these...

Wow, sorry for the long delay in blog postings! It's not that nothing is going on, rather that tons~tons~tons is going on... Lots of excitement with our Senior Campaign, some Commercial Photography jobs, new Baby & Family clients, a recent Model Integrity workshop, and more! I've been running to keep up with everything, but all of it keeps my creative juices flowing... :) Here's just a few details to touch on, with more good stuff to come later.

-Mother's Day: due to the craziness around here, I chose not to run a Mother's Day special this year, but if you are still looking for a fab gift for mom or grandma, keep in mind our handbag & totebag line, photo jewelry, or portrait pillows! Or better yet a gift certificate toward one of these treasured modern photo gifts so she can pick out an accessory to match her style. (Images from previous sessions can be used or you can use the gift certificate after you next shoot). ;)

...is way cool. Check out his new duds. (Or lack of in the case of the second look). I wanted to do something fun and different (it's not always easy to be creative with little boys) for a studio sample album, so my sister and I went on a mini shopping spree before we shot his one year photos. Lucky for us, Stryker made it through the shopping spree AND through the shoot. And he got his cake as a reward. :)

I was inspired today...

I came across the blog today of another photographer – per a professional photography association contest I was supposed to be voting on my favorite photography blog… of 400+ to look at I’m not sure how I picked hers of just the few I viewed. But I did, and I was quickly addicted (I do not get addicted easily). You might be thinking I was inspired by her photography or her style, but really it was just her. Her blog is filled with joy and prettiness and much much grief. You see, her little girl passed away two years ago, and her blog has become a photo chronicle of her pain mixed with blessings. In contrast, I am not one to bare my soul. To be excessively transparent or vulnerable. Sincere, yes. Genuine, absolutely. But pouring out emotions to the world, not so much. I have always had a bit of a conflict with the whole blogging thing. It seems so… out there. Ones life for all to see. A business blog of course is another matter; what a great tool for communicating, for updating! And yet, I haven’t been terribly good at it (as you may have noticed from the time that passes between posts). :) It seems sometimes a chore to add to my already overwhelming list of things to do. And until now, mixing the business posts with personal insights just hasn’t been my style. (Which brings me to some new ideas I have been mulling over for turning this blog into something entirely not like anyone else’s… but more on that later). :)

So today I was inspired because this woman’s blog, personal stories of her day or her grief mixed with undeniably gorgeous photos of her children & more, was full of LIFE. And I was drawn to her. Her ability to translate everyday moments and her love for her children into something beyond beautiful. Her willingness to open her soul to the world and surrender to the emotions we all feel. It made me want to, of course, take more pictures of my kids, my precious kids. But also to add a bit of life to my blog too, soul-baring or not. :) And though I still imagine this blog as informative, business-oriented, an inspiring connection to photography, fashion, & creativity, I also want it to have some depth. I think it should be a bit more REAL.

So to start, here are some things about me. Not flighty things, but REAL things. (Beyond the fact that I love to see the world through pictures and am honored to have the privilege to do so).

-I am a deep thinker. I am very analytical. Despite being obsessively creative and idea-oriented I actually love details and problem solving.

-I want to love life more. To love God more. To love my husband more. I do not think I could love my kids more.

-I love to write. I write in my head all the time. I have very little time to actually write on paper. Someday I would like to write a book, or two, or several.

-I used to be a perfectionist. I'm now "very meticulous" and yet completley flexible at the same time.

-I am inherently empathetic, excessively compassionate. I try to avoid being so. To the point that I cannot watch the news or think to hard about the world around me or I fear I might do nothing but cry over other people’s grief or tear up over the wonder of so many blessings. And yet I am almost always happy. Joy comes from far more than circumstances.

-I have serious plans for at least two other businesses. I cannot stop the ideas from coming. Yet I see no way in which they will ever exist since it just me, myself, and I (and we have very little time on our hands).

-I talk too fast. Often times too much. I am much better with words on paper than in person. If only my mouth was half as savvy as my brain.

-My New Years resolution is to spend more time with people and less with my computer.

-I really-truly-genuinely care about people.

-I love~love~love my business, but I love my family more.

With that said, I hope you will be inspired to be introspective for a moment as well. To love more, to let yourself take time to feel, to get caught up in the joy of life no matter the circumstances. To seek purpose and truth. And of course, to be grateful for what you have.

With a new blog format coming soon (& by soon I mean as soon as I can humanly get to it when I currently have 28 business & marketing projects on my plate outside of my regular client upkeep) :) I will make an effort to mix in glimpses of my children, my life, or my thoughts. Maybe for you, maybe just for me. Because what's really important is what's really important and it's good to be reminded of that.

We had the pleasure of visiting with some out-of-town friends a couple of weeks ago, and I was blessed to be able to enjoy their family through the art of taking pictures... (what better way!) They're so cute that I just had to get them on the blog. :) Our kids of course all had a great time playing together and we look forward to their next visit. Happy New Year everyone! A big welcome to 2009... :)

I am back to work (as of last week actually), though the studio schedule for January is a bit sporadic still. While many people may feel down once the excitement of the holidays are over, I actually love Januaury! For me it's a chance to begin planning the new marketing, products & events of the year ahead. And since my head is almost always over-flowing with ideas, I love that I can sit down guilt-free and get them all out. It's a luxury for me just to "think" and write and create. So here's to a new year... wishing you ideas & inspiration as well! I can't wait to see what the creativity of this month will mean for the studio throughout the year.

Merry Christmas everyone! May you have a blessed time with your family and friends during this very joyous season. I will be in and out (mostly out) over the next two weeks (& will not always have access to email), so please be patient if you try to get in touch. I will be back in town for good starting Mon Jan 5th, and will resume regular studio hours the week of the 12th. (For those of you who have appts/shoots Mon & Tues the 29th/30th - don't worry I will be there!) :) I hope you all get the much needed rest and relaxation that I'm looking forward to as well. I've spent most of last week and this week designing holiday cards (very time consuming, but one of my favorite things to do!) and while I could never post them all for lack of space, here are a few of my favorite's for this season. While I'm not one of those photographer's who can find the time to post images from every shoot on the blog (I'm too busy editing your pictures!) :), I am hoping to feature one shoot a week to give you all a glimpse into some of my current work. This week I'm working on prepping numerous orders for print, and thought I'd feature these images of Connie from our senior picture shoot earlier this fall. Holiday Deadlines & Wardrobe Ideas!

Hey All ~ Can't believe it's November already!!! Things are busy at the studio as usual, and I am forgetting to sneak in blog time. :) I'll try to post a few updates and some images from recent shoots over the next few days or so...

DEADLINES:
-For now, just a reminder that the LAST DAY TO SHOOT with Christmas deadlines in mind is THURS NOV 20th. There are still a few slots available for child & family pre-holiday shoots. (Shoots done through the end of November will be rushed with hopes of making the same deadlines, but holiday delivery will not be guaranteed).

-Also, the deadline for ordering images (either at your viewing appt or orders coming in after) is Friday December 5th. Orders will then be available for pick-up, or mailed out, the week of December 15th-19th.

Holiday Cards 2008!

Just a quick posting featuring some of our gorgeous holiday card offerings this year! We've added the new damask collection you see here first, and I also posted an image from our modern whimsy collection (one of my favorites!). All cards are 5x7, include envelopes, can often feature more than one image as well as custom text, and come in three styles this year (one sided, two sided, or fold-open).

Welcome to the Feather Blue Studios Blog!
With the recent launch of the new Feather Blue Studios website (long time coming!) I thought it was only appropriate to make a fresh start with a new blog as well. For those of you who don't know me, I'm Shannon, the photographer and creative mind behind Feather Blue Studios (previously Shannon Tacheny Photography & Design). I love to create art through pictures, I love the craziness of running a business (most of the time) :), and I love meeting new, fun, inspiring people like you. This blog will give you a peak into my life and more importantly, many glimpses at some of the beautiful work I get the honor of creating.

While I get super excited about creating artistic photography for all types of scenarios (kids/families, hs seniors, models/actors, as well as occasional weddings and commercial work), it is currently "portrait season" (when the rush of beautiful families and kids come in for the "Christmas picture") so that is what most of my focus and energy are on for the next couple months. With that in mind, if you are considering a fall session for your child or family, please email me at featherbluestudios@juno.com for a special offer (new clients only, good for Oct/Nov) if you haven't picked up our coupon/postcard already.
